USPS financial woes continue!

USPS estimates for fiscal year 2011, ending this September 30, it will reach the $15 billion maximum debt ceiling. USPS has reported in Congressional hearings that it needs to eliminate Saturday delivery to save money, and it needs to recover “pre-paid overpayments” on future retirees held by the Office of Personnel Management. Both will have to be voted on by Congress, and the Government Oversight Committee continues deliberating these and other financial issues facing USPS.

PostalUniformXpress.com supports the U.S. Postal Service, because it is the best postal service in the world with the best postal employees in the world.  What a bargain we have in a $0.44 cent stamp!!!

APWU Tentative Agreement

On May 8, 2011, representatives from the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) spoke during a “town hall meeting” to Postal Uniform Xpress and other uniform vendors at a conference in Orlando, Florida.

As part of the meeting, the representatives provided an update on the tentative 2010-2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement between USPS and APWU.  They explained the tentative agreement is currently out to each member on referendum vote and that ballots would be counted on May 14.

The tentative agreement would also create more jobs, including jobs for veterans, and has a four and a half year duration, which the APWU representatives said was their longest initial contract to date.  Postal Uniform Xpress will keep you updated on the results.

NALC Committee of Presidents Meeting

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) recently completed its Committee of Presidents (COP) meeting.  National President Fred Rolando addressed the COP with many topics pertaining to the upcoming negotiations later this year.  Postal Uniform Xpress wishes NALC much success in these negotiations.

APWU Contract Settlement

The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) successfully negotiated a contract with the U.S. Postal Service.  Ratification is pending and will be decided by members’ mail-in ballots.  At a time when many public employee unions are having their negotiating rights stripped away, the APWU remained strong.  The APWU’s commitment to negotiating a successful contract with wage increases and benefits, including increases in uniform allowances, shows the power of its membership.

Union preferred Postal Uniform Xpress is proud to serve the Best and Strong APWU members who make up the World’s Best Postal Service.  We’ll help you stretch the dollars on your negotiated allowance benefit and, as always, offer our price guarantee  -- we will beat any competitors’ published price on the same manufacturers’ item.

The Reason Behind USPS's Change to Solid Blue Postal Uniform Shirts

You may have noticed a change from pin stripe to solid blue in postal uniform shirts, and Postal Uniform Xpress, your source for the best quality postal uniforms at the best prices, believes you should know why.

USPS determines the specifications manufacturers and vendors must follow for the postal uniforms and accessories you purchase using your Postal Uniform Allowance Card.  USPS also has a Buy American policy.  Recently, the pin stripe material previously used for postal uniform shirts became unavailable from mills in the United States.  Because of USPS's laudable Buy American policy, which is passed down to manufacturers and vendors, postal uniform shirts for Letter Carriers and Window Clerks can no longer have a pin stripe.

The only difference between the pin stripe shirt and the solid blue shirt is the lack of a pin stripe.  There is no change in fabric, available styles, or sizing.
